Sound volume levels

• 0 dB Hearing threshold
• 20 dB Whisper; rustling leaves
  
• 40 dB Office with clerical work or residential area
  
• 60 dB Normal conversation
  
• 80 dB Factory noise; hairdryer; vacuum cleaner
  
• 100 dB Heavy traffic; subway noise; pneumatic drill
• 120 dB Thunderclap accompanied by lightning strike; rock music played through an amplifier
• 140 dB Jet aircraft during takeoff (this level of sound is dangerous – it can cause pain and injury)
